Fairfield County Bank to Hold Series of Community Fraud Awareness and Prevention Events

Ridgefield, CT—September 29, 2026: In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which takes place in October, Fairfield County Bank is hosting a series of in-person and virtual fraud awareness and prevention events.

Throughout the month of October, Fairfield County Bank is partnering with local law enforcement, community organizations, and fraud prevention professionals to provide educational events geared toward both consumers and businesses. The three in-person community events feature complimentary refreshments from local establishments.

Connecticut residents alone lose nearly $1 billion a year as a result of online scams, a total that only climbs higher year-over-year. Scammer’s ability to use technology to manipulate and confuse consumers rise at the same rate. Outside of the $1 billion dollars lost to online scams, Connecticut seniors also lose nearly $80 million to elder abuse each year. The best way to combat fraud is to empower consumers with the knowledge they need to slow down, recognize a scam, and end the interaction.

“Fraud prevention starts with awareness,” said Hillary Lust, Fraud Prevention Specialist at Fairfield County Bank. “Scammers rely on urgency, fear, and confusion to pressure you into acting quickly. I’m excited to engage with our community members directly and demonstrate actionable steps they can implement.”

In 2024, Fairfield County Bank launched its S.E.T. initiative, which encourages clients to Stop, Evaluate, and Talk to their banker when they receive unsolicited or suspicious messages. The Bank’s upcoming events build on that initiative by offering practical guidance on common scams, prevention strategies, and steps community members can take if they believe they have been targeted.

These events are open to the community and will include opportunities to learn directly from fraud prevention experts about current scam trends, common warning signs, and simple steps individuals and businesses can take to protect themselves.
